Is it too late to say Happy New Year? I mean the year is 10 days old already, so maybe it's not so new, but I hope you are still feeling that excitement and promise of a new beginning – the feeling that anything is possible if you are willing to focus your efforts and get it done. Maybe, though, the bright and shiny has already worn off of your resolution. Maybe you’ve had a slip up or two and are feeling like giving up and slipping back into your old habits. Just remember that every day is a new beginning. Every minute is a new beginning for that matter. It doesn’t have to be January 1st or Monday morning to start again. You can resolve to make a change at any moment of any day. So what about now? How about starting from now? And if you mess it up tomorrow, well then how about starting again? Our abilities and successes are not determined by how many times we fall, but in how many times we get back up again.
Conditions do not have to be perfect to make a change and we do not have to be perfect once we’ve made a change. Consistency, sticking with it, and recovering from the times you backslide are how you achieve change. Be proud of the small accomplishments. If you have resolved to eat healthier, and had a healthy breakfast and lunch and then a little slip up at dinner, that’s okay. Celebrate breakfast and lunch and concentrate harder on dinner tomorrow. Maybe you’ve resolved to exercise more, but didn’t make it to the gym today. That’s okay. Get up and go for a walk now. Just don’t beat yourself up. You are not perfect, but you are perfectly capable of making positive changes in your life. Give yourself permission to slip up, but not to give up.
Happy New Moment. Seize it and be great!
