Spring Back from a Day of Unhealthy Eating

Happy Monday!  I hope you enjoyed a lovely Easter weekend.  It was a gorgeous spring day here in Western Pennsylvania, and I had a very happy and relaxing time with family.  Well maybe I was a bit too relaxed.  You see, this Easter was a slippery slope for me.  It started with a glass or two of wine, then “just one” Reese’s peanut butter egg, and the rest is kind of a blur.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself, but pretty much lost all control in the eating department.  It happens. 

I woke up this morning feeling heavy and sluggish with 10 different reasons to skip my workout – “I think I tweaked my knee; it’s raining out; I really should get a jump on my work this morning” – blah, blah, blah.  Luckily I caught myself in two or three lies (lying to yourself is the worst!) and decided to suck it up and lace up.  I did 20 minutes on the spin bike and then some strength training followed by some simple and restorative stretching.  After a quick shower, I whipped up my favorite healthy and refreshing banana booster smoothie for breakfast.  The result – I am feeling energized and strong with renewed enthusiasm.  Now I am in the right mindset to start this week of healthy eating and movement. 

While I would have preferred to have stayed on track during the holiday, I am reminded that a single slip-up does not define who I am and does not need to be the start of a bigger tumble into unhealthy eating patterns.  If you struggled with eating healthfully over Easter, cut yourself some slack.  Today is a new day full of all kinds of possibilities.  Dust yourself off, pack (or throw) away any remaining goodies, and move forward.  Spring is a time of renewal.  It’s time to get started (or restarted) on your journey to health and wellness.
