Happy Renewal Day! That’s what I’m calling it anyway. Most everyone else is calling it Cyber Monday – the day to kick off your online holiday shopping. You can do that too, but I think it is more important to start the week after Thanksgiving with renewed focus on your health and well-being. Hopefully you enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family and also enjoyed some of your favorite holiday foods. Maybe you stayed on plan and ate healthfully over the holiday, or maybe you went a little crazy. Either way - today is a perfect day to renew, recharge, and detox before diving full-on into the stress of the Holiday season.
Here are some quick tips to remember as you start your week.
Move - Walk, run, dance, do Pilates, yoga . . . whatever works for you. Just get out there and move.
Express Gratitude – Thanksgiving is over, but that doesn’t mean the gratitude should end. Think of 3 things in your life that you are grateful for and write them down. Being grateful every day will lift your spirits and improve your satisfaction with life.
Practice Self-Care – Consider starting your day with a vigorous body bushing. Dry brushing your skin with a quality, natural bristle brush has many benefits. It stimulates your lymphatic system to help release toxins which may even help your body to shed excess water weight and reduce bloating. It also increases circulation and leaves you feeling energized. This is a great way to exfoliate your skin, unclog pores and allow your skin to breathe.
Eat Well – Increase your intake of fresh fruits and veggies and decrease processed foods and sugar. After all of the carb-laden foods of the holiday, I was craving my spinach, banana, matcha protein smoothie. This breakfast (which I call my green banana booster) leaves me feeling light, energized, and ready for the day. Click here for the recipe.
Relax – Consider ending your day with a long soak in a warm bath of Epsom salts and a few drops of lavender essential oil. Let the day melt away and prepare for some good quality sleep.
Sleep – This is the one I struggle with the most. There is so much to do, especially at this time of year, but it is all so much easier if you are well-rested. Sleep allows your body to heal and recharge, leaving you more focused, energized, and able to make better choices for your health and well-being.
I hope you’ll join me in making today your Renewal Day, and keep these healthy habits going through the holiday season and into the New Year.
